US President Donald Trump on Wednesday expressed hesitation for new sanctions for the Russian war because of the Ukraine, saying that he does not want sanctions to interfere with a cessation of fire, informs Reuters, taken by Agerpres.

“When I think I'm close to getting an agreement, I don't want to give it to the bar,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, referring to sanctions.

Trump also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin could intentionally postpone negotiations on a cessation of fire in the Ukraine war and expressed his disappointment with the recent Russian bombings.

“We will find out whether (Putin) it talks to us or not, and if yes, we will answer a little differently,” Trump said.

Trump's hesitations come in the context in which the European Union adopted, on May 20, the 17th pack of sanctions against Russia.

These include greater restrictions for the so-called Russian “ghost” fleet used for the transport of oil and petroleum products.

Already the next EU package of measures against Moscow is prepared. Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda asked the European Union on Tuesday to impose tougher sanctions in the context of the war that Moscow forces continue against Ukraine.

“Putin returns the whole world against him and deserves really harsher sanctions than the already existing ones,” Nauseda told Lithuania.

“I really hope that our colleagues in the European Union will understand that the 17th pack of sanctions was just a heating. We must prepare the 18th pack of sanctions, which resembles a Molotov cocktail,” he insisted.
