Volodymyr Zelensky wrote a letter to Vladimir Putin

“When you came to power in Russia over 26 years ago, many Ukrainians perceived you positively. That's how it was. But that's in the past. Nowadays, the vast majority of Ukrainians welcome the fact that our long-range drones appeared at the opening of your forum in St. Petersburg, covering a distance of over 1,000 kilometers. As you well know, this distance is not the limit of our capabilities,” Zelensky begins his letter.

The President of Ukraine emphasizes that during the 26 years of Vladimir Putin's rule, the nature of his country's relations with Russia has completely changed. As he notes, the Russian dictator devoted almost half of his reign to the war with the Ukrainians. He also directly writes that “this war is Putin's personal choice.”

“Now we all see that the Russians are finally starting to feel worse and worse in this reality – in the face of the fact that the war is bringing more and more negative consequences for Russia. They don't like the presence of our drones and missiles. They don't like the shortage of gasoline and constantly rising prices. They don't like the constant introduction of restrictions. They don't like your intention to start a second wave of mobilization in order to expand the war to other areas of Ukraine or use it against other countries neighboring Russia. They don't like the fact that there is no end to this war,” he writes Zelensky.

The President of Ukraine adds that his country will do everything to hasten the end of Putin's rule. He also cites data on the losses suffered by the Russians on the front in May. As he writes, over 30,000 people were killed or seriously injured last month. soldiers of the Russian dictator's army. “We know that 63 percent of your losses on the battlefield are killed, and only 37 percent are wounded. In the 21st century, no army can afford such a ratio. And the percentage of killed will continue to grow,” we read.

Zelensky emphasizes that he cares about his citizens. “We are losing our people, and every loss is painful for us. Even if the ratio of Ukrainian to Russian losses is one to five or one to six, it is still of great importance,” he writes.

The Ukrainian leader emphasizes that his country does not want constant war and is very interested in restoring peace. “I'm sure most Russians would also react positively to it – and you know it,” he tells Putin.

Zelensky notes that many people, including Putin, did not believe that Ukraine would be able to withstand such a long war. “Don't be afraid to choose the path out of this war. This is the most important thing we expect from you now. Ukraine has retained its independence. And it will keep it. Despite all the forecasts that predicted something different,” he writes to the Russian president.

“We will not allow those who try to convince you that sanctions against Russia will be significantly eased and support for Ukraine will be significantly reduced, without any significant change in your position towards Ukraine, to succeed.” [Viktora] Orban shows how those who decide to help Russia in its war against us end up in disgrace,” we read.

Zelensky also points out that Putin is the first Russian leader in history who had to ask North Korea for help. He also adds that Russia has become completely dependent on China. He emphasizes that his own associates, oligarchs and propagandists are starting to get tired of Putin's actions. He also writes that after 26 years of his rule, this fatigue will only increase.

“We have seen intelligence reports indicating that you are now considering plans to continue the war into 2027 and 2028. We also know that you hope that ballistic missiles will achieve for you what all others have failed to achieve. You want to draw Belarus even deeper into this war, and we are now forced to prepare for that as well. We see that you are trying to orchestrate something around Transnistria. Your propagandists are threatening, in one way or another, every country neighboring Russia. Do you really want to go through all this? The choice is yours now. Enough of the war. Ukraine proposes to end this war,” Zelensky writes.

President Ukraine must be ended in such a way as to ensure that fighting does not break out again. “We see that the United States is fully focused on the Iran issue and it would be a mistake to simply wait until the war in Europe becomes the center of its attention again. Ukraine proposes ending this war through direct talks between us and you. I propose a meeting,” we read.

At the same time, Zelensky emphasizes that he does not want it to take place in Moscow, as the Russians have repeatedly proposed. As he writes, such a meeting could take place, for example, in Switzerland, Turkey or countries in the Arab world. “It is the leaders who decide key issues. It has always been so and it will always be so. I propose to set a specific date for such a meeting,” he writes.

The President of Ukraine adds that the talks could be joined by “the bilateral dialogue that is to be established between us.” He emphasizes that the war is taking place in Europe, therefore European countries should be part of this process. He emphasizes that the USA should also play an important role.

“Ukraine is ready for a complete ceasefire for the duration of the negotiations. This is standard practice, and current events around Iran only confirm this. An attempt to establish real peace is the best way to start talks. We believe that this would not be just an attempt, but a real ceasefire – if that is what you want,” we read in the letter to Putin.
