Fresh greens all year round – a mini-garden on the windowsill: this is what even a beginner will definitely grow – 5 basic ideas

Basic greens are easy to grow at home, even in urban conditions – you no longer have to buy them in the store and see how they have become limp after just a day or two. All you need is light, some water and pots of soil, as expert Dmitry Zmievsky explained.

#1: Green onions

Take a store-bought onion and place it in a glass of water so that its lower part is slightly in contact with the water – you will need to change it every couple of days. You can plant the onion in a pot, but you can’t bury it completely, or fill it with water in the future. Place the container on the windowsill.

No. 2: Dill

Soak the dill seeds in warm water for several hours. Take a container of loose soil and plant them in the ground to a depth of 1 cm. Maintain distance to provide the sprouts with enough space. Water dill regularly, but without fanaticism – overwatering is harmful to it. He feels best in lighted places.

No. 3: Parsley

Soak the parsley seeds for 24 hours and plant them in loose soil to a depth of 0.5-1 cm. Expect germination no earlier than a couple of weeks. Water your greens moderately and provide them with light.

#4: Basil

Plant basil seeds in light soil at a shallow depth and place in a warm, well-lit place. If the greens grow in the cold and in drafts, the result will be disastrous.

#5: Mint

This greenery grows quite quickly and takes up all the available space, so a separate container for it is a must. Mint loves sunlight and moderate watering.

Try growing something from this list, and soon you will be able to transform even the simplest dishes, be it an omelet, sandwiches, soup or salad. And mint can be used to make homemade lemonades and cold fruit drinks.
