Folk calendar
Pakhom Warm, Pakhom – Bokogray
Pachomius the Great, whose memory is celebrated on this day, was an Egyptian monk. The people called Pakhom Teply, or Bokogrey, because from his holiday real warmth was established. They said that bird cherry matinees are replaced by rowan warmth.
On this day it was necessary to sow the remaining wheat: “Pakhom Bokogrey has come – finish the wheat quickly.” But it was not recommended to plant any other plants on Pakhom – especially at noon; it was believed that any crops and plantings other than wheat would be lost.
They also paid attention to other signs. If the sunrise on Pakhom was crimson, a terrible, fiery summer was expected.
