The United States refused to sign a joint statement of 50 UN countries condemning the escalation of the Russian Federation

On May 26, the UN headquarters presented a joint statement by a number of states in support of Ukraine, which sharply condemns the latest escalation of attacks by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation on civilian infrastructure and the Ukrainian population. This was reported by the press service of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN.

The statement, read by Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN, Andriy Melnik, strongly condemns the massive Russian attacks, in particular on the night of May 24 with the use of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, designed to carry nuclear warheads. The signatories call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, the exchange of prisoners and the return of illegally detained persons.

“We reiterate our demand that the Russian Federation immediately cease its aggressive war and ensure the complete, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all its forces and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to ensuring full accountability for the crimes committed, in accordance with international law. All those responsible must be brought to justice,” the statement said.

The document, according to Melnyk, was signed by 50 countries and the European Union. However, this list does not include the United States of America.
