Record amount of cocaine seized in Portugal

Portugal's security services seized a record volume of cocaine in the first half of this year – over 9 tons. The seizure of this drug usually took place off the country's shores.


According to Portuguese police estimates quoted on Wednesday by the daily “Jornal de Noticias”, compared to the first half of 2024, the volume of seized cocaine is more than 15 percent higher.
The Portuguese police estimate that the amount of cocaine seized may be even higher in the second half of this year.
They estimate that only at the turn of October and November this year. Two vessels were seized off the coast of the Lisbon agglomeration, with over 4 tons of cocaine on board.
The increase in the volume of seized drugs, as explained by the Portuguese police, is the result of increased cooperation with the security services of other countries and more modern equipment used by the officers.
