Another blow in the AfD. Brandenburg recognized the party as an extremist organization

The Brandenburg Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the right-wing-populist alternative to Germany (AFD) in Brandenburg as a right-wing extremist organization. This was announced by the Interior Minister Katrin Lange in Potsdam – writes the DPA agency on Wednesday.

According to Lange, the classification from the Lands Office of Constitution Protection comes from April 14. Lange herself, however, received a notification only on May 5, while the assessment should have been made available immediately.

Lange dismissed the head of the Constitution Protection Office on Tuesday, Jörg Mueller. There is no longer necessary trust, said the minister in the internal commission of the Land Parliament in Potsdam. She and the public were not informed about this important event – we read.

So far, the AfD land in Brandenburg has been classified as “suspicious”. In Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, the relevant offices of the union countries have already classified the party as extremist.

Last Friday, the Federal Office of Constitution Protection (BFV) also classified AFD at federal level as an extremist organization. Lange reacted skeptical to this decision – writes DPA. She also criticized the announcement of the AFD classification a few days before the creation of a new federal government, describing them as unfortunate.

BFV made a decision based on internal expertise of approx. 1.1 thousand. pages. The document emphasized that the assessment is based primarily on the understanding of the nation in AfD, which is based not on citizenship, but above all on origin.

The Federal Office emphasized that this concept based on ethnic categories “is aimed at excluding certain groups of population from equal participation in society and treating them in a way that violates the constitution, and thus giving them a legally subordinate status.”
