John Travolta, ecstatic after being awarded an unexpected award at Cannes: “It's beyond Oscar”

American actor John Travolat was awarded an honorary Palme d`Or for his entire career on Friday at the Cannes Film Festival, where the premiere of the first film he ever directed took place, AFP wrote.

The Hollywood star was visibly emotional as he received the award, ahead of a screening of 'Propeller One-Way Night Coach', which is based on a children's book he wrote.

Organizers kept the prize secret until John Travolta took the stage for the premiere.

“I just can't believe it. This is beyond Oscar, really,” he said as he accepted the honorary Palme d'Or.

“My favorite films in the history of my life have always been the Palme d'Or winners,” added the actor.

Beyond the award, John Travolta, 72, said he was extremely surprised that his directorial debut, which stars his daughter Ella Bleu Travolta, was accepted into the world's most prestigious film festival.

Travolta, who has never won an Academy Award, revived a declining career with his iconic performance as the assassin “Vincent Vega” in “Pulp Fiction,” Quentin Tarantino's film, which won the festival's grand Palme d'Or in 1994.

Many film critics consider it to be his best role, one that would go down in cinema history.
