The Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, criticizing anti -Russian sanctions, assessed that in Europe there is interest in building a new iron curtain. As part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Fico laid wreaths on the graves of Red Army soldiers in Michalovce in the east of the country on Tuesday.

“The European Commission presents an action plan to permanently stop any energy flow from the Russian Federation to Europe. After all, it is an iron curtain with amazing economic consequences for the entire European Union,” said Fico in a speech at the Military Cemetery in Michalovce, where 17,000 are buried. Red Army soldiers.
In his opinion, the evidence of the existence of an iron curtain is the lack of direct air connections to Russia. “When I was flying to Moscow in December last year, I had to fly through Turkey, and I also returned around Koszyce. This is an iron curtain,” he assessed.
Fico emphasized that Slovakia rejects a new iron curtain, and the expression of his opposition will be the presence in Russia at the anniversary of the end of World War II. “We must participate in such events and present historical truth,” the prime minister noted.
In his opinion, paying tribute to the soldiers of the Red Army has nothing to do with current events. Fico said that by mentioning World War II, one could not be neutral. “You can stand on the winners side or on the fascist side,” he said.
Already after the ceremony in Michalovce, the Slovak media announced that after Bratislava completed the required formalities, Poland granted permission to flight a special aircraft, which the delegation of Slovakia with Prime Minister Fica will fly to Moscow at the celebration on May 9. (PAP)
