The fire broke out on the evening of June 8 near the Finlyandsky station in St. Petersburg. As a result of the incident, four people were killed and two more were injured, the Russian publication Fontanka reported.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that they heard explosions before this. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation reported that the enterprise's hangar was on fire – the fire raged on an area of 400 m². More than 60 rescuers spent five hours extinguishing it. Among the probable causes is the ignition of acetone vapor in a room with chemical reagents.
According to Fontanka, the bodies of two dead were found in the hangar, and two more were found under the rubble of a collapsed brick fence. The two injured men were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity.
Due to the emergency, one electric train was turned back to the station, and passengers were disembarked, the publication writes.
According to the Ukrainian publication Radio Liberty, near the address of the fire published by emergency services, there is a production building of the Arsenal machine-building plant, owned by the Roscosmos corporation. The plant produces products for the Russian Army and the space industry, in particular satellites, naval artillery and launchers, and rocket engines. The plant is under sanctions from the United States, Great Britain and the European Union due to its participation in fulfilling Russian defense orders, in particular for the war against Ukraine, the media writes.
