Following the call to 112, the policemen of Section 2 arrived urgently at the scene, who demarcated the area and established a security perimeter until the arrival of the specialized teams, writes News.ro.
Pyrotechnicians and firefighters from ISU Galati intervened to lift the object, the operation being carried out under maximum safety conditions. The grenade is to be destroyed in a controlled manner, in a specialized training ground.
According to the first checks, it is a defensive grenade, equipped with a warhead and active charge, left over from the Second World War.
Consequently, a criminal case was opened for non-compliance with the regime of explosive substances. Investigations are being continued by the Weapons, Explosives and Hazardous Substances Service to determine how the ammunition got there.
In February, an unexploded grenade casing was discovered in the area of the Railway Station in the municipality of Galati.
The authorities secured the perimeter for the entire duration of the operation. The pyrotechnic element was “lifted, transported and stored under safe conditions”to be destroyed later, according to the procedures, in a specially arranged polygon.
