Mallorca airport is still facing delays, although the storms have passed. Rains caused flight changes

Although severe storms have moved away from the Balearic Islands, Mallorca airport continues to record delays caused by heavy rains that hit the island on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 9 and 10.

Wednesday morning incidents aimed at scheduled flights to take off or land at Son Sant Joan airport, between 10:00 and 12:00, according to information provided by the Aena airport authority, writes the Spanish press.
In total, 20 take -offs and 22 landings were delayed by one to two hours. In contrast, Ibiza and Menorca airports did not report problems during the morning. On Tuesday, however, the three airports recorded hundreds of delays, dozens of cancellations and several deviations to other destinations.
The torrential rains recorded from Tuesday until Wednesday morning caused 95 incidents in the archipelago, of which 92 in Mallorca, two in Menorca and one in Ibiza. The most affected localities were Palma (47 cases), Calvia (19), Algaida (4), Andratx (4), Manacor (3), Marratxí (3) and Llucmajor (2).
Most alerts targeted floods in low areas and public roads (21), tree falls (28) and water accumulation (16).
The Spanish Meteorological Agency issued a yellow code warning for Wednesdays in the interior regions and in the Llevant area of Mallorca, where rains and storms are expected. Starting at noon, precipitation of up to 30 liters per square meter is estimated in one hour.
