Participants in the protest, which were peaceful, chanted slogans calling on the Montenegro cabinet to increase pensions, including: “We want decent pensions!”, “Stop cuts!” and “We oppose pension reductions.”
Representatives of syndicates and organizations representing police officers that organized Thursday's demonstration declared that if their demands were ignored by the Montenegro cabinet, they would intensify their forms of protest.
As reported by the head of the ASPP police syndicate, Paulo Santos, over the last twenty years in Portugal there has been a gradual reduction in the real value of pensions for police service employees. He added that during this time they decreased by about 30-40%.
