The main Iranian negotiator, after the failure of negotiations with the Americans: “They were unable to win our trust”

The United States was “unable” to win Iranians' trust during peace talks in Islamabad, Tehran parliament speaker and head of the Iranian delegation Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on Sunday, just hours after talks in Pakistan broke down.

“My colleagues (…) presented constructive initiatives, but in the end the other side failed to win the confidence of the Iranian delegation during this round of negotiations,” Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote in a post on the X network.

He also said that he had already emphasized before the talks that Iran has the necessary goodwill and determination, but does not trust the other side because of the experiences of previous wars, Agerpres reports citing DPA.

Ghalibaf also thanked Pakistan for its mediation efforts.

Direct talks between the US and Iran ended without an agreement on Sunday morning.

The head of the US delegation, Vice President JD Vance, said that after 21 hours of dialogue, the Iranian side decided not to accept the US conditions. Washington has said it has left a proposal for Iran that is its final offer.

According to Vance, who declined to provide details on the content of the negotiations, the main obstacle was Iran's failure to commit to not pursuing nuclear weapons in the long term.
