An inmate from the Iași Penitentiary escaped from a church: he was caught by a prison employee in his free time
A man who was serving a three-year prison sentence for aggravated theft at the Iaşi Penitentiary escaped, on Tuesday, from the work station at the “Saints Athanasius and Cyril” Church. He was caught in Nicolina Station, by a penitentiary police officer in his spare time.

“On the morning of March 31, 2026, the Iasi County Police Inspectorate was notified by the Iasi Penitentiary, regarding the fact that a person deprived of liberty, who was at the work station at the “Saints Athanasius and Cyril” Church in Iasi, left in an unknown direction”announced the Iasi County Police Inspectorate.
As a result, searches were launched.
The escaped man was noticed by a penitentiary policeman, in his free time, in Nicolina station, in Iasi county. He received support from the policemen of the Iasi Transport Regional Police Department, in order to immobilize the man.
The man was incarcerated in the Iaşi Penitentiary, to serve a 3-year prison sentence for aggravated theft.
