Judges appreciated that the president's authority in foreign policy seems to “Exceeds the potential damage” which the beneficiaries of the funds could suffer.
The decision is not final and is only temporarily applied, while the case is to be analyzed in the lower courts.
Donald Trump has blocked, since his return to the White House, billions of dollars intended for international aid and has officially abolished the American Agency for International Development (USAID), now under the authority of the State Department. USAID, the largest global humanitarian agency, holds health and emergency help in about 120 countries.
The three liberal judges at the Supreme Court opposed the decision. Elena Kagan criticized the judgment by appointing her “In contradiction with the separation of powers in the state”.
