A spokesman for the Chinese resort of Lin Jian emphasized that China and the EU, as the second and third largest economy in the world, are “supporters of economic globalization and free trade” and “avoiding defenders” WTO.

“EU leaders emphasize that the efficient functioning of the world economy requires stability and certainty,” said Lin during a press briefing. “The EU and China strive to maintain a fair and free WTO -based multilateral trade system, which is in the common interest of both sides and the whole world” – he added.

On Friday, the daily “South China Morning Post” revealed that EU leaders are planning a peak in July with China's leader XI Jinping in Beijing, which – according to “SMCP” – shows the determination of the EU in the pursuit of re -involvement in relations with Beijing, in the context of the collapse of relations from the US's relations during the presidency of Trump. A spokesman for the European Council confirmed on Friday that Brussels “is working with China on determining the date of the meeting.”

Referring to the “mutual duties”, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing assessed that the US uses them as “a weapon (maid) to exert pressure and realize egoistic” interests. “This is a typical unilateralism, protectionism and economic intimidation, which seriously harms the interests of all countries, including China and the EU,” Lin emphasized.

Last week, Trump raised American duties on goods from China to 145 percent. In response, the authorities in Beijing increased the tariffs imposed on products imported from the USA to 125 percent.
