Slovakia attacks drivers from Poland. There is a reaction from the European Commission

We acknowledge that the Slovak government has adopted a measure imposing a 30-day restriction on refueling diesel in Slovakia, as well as introducing differentiated prices for domestic and foreign vehicles, EC spokesman Ricardo Cardoso said on Tuesday at a press conference.
— We consider this measure to be highly discriminatory and contrary to EU law. We understand the need to support citizens, but at this particular time these measures must not discriminate on the basis of nationality or undermine the integrity of our single market. We will take appropriate legal action to ensure compliance with these regulations, the spokesman added.
The Slovak Prime Minister blames the Poles. The government has introduced different prices for foreign drivers
Poles will pay more for a diesel in Slovakia
At the same time, a special price for diesel fuel will apply at gas stations for all vehicles registered outside Slovakia, set as the average of prices in Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland.
Since January 27, 2026, Slovakia has not received Russian oil via the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline. This was compounded by an increase in raw material prices on world markets and the resulting “fuel tourism” from neighboring countries.
