While the raspberries are just picking up buds, the weevil is already starting to cause harm. At this point, summer residents use a simple technique – ordinary wood ash. It helps reduce pest activity and at the same time supports the plant.
The weevil damages the buds, which is why some of the berries do not develop. To reduce losses, ash is added under the bushes – an affordable product that is available in almost every area.
Ash is scattered at the rate of 1 cup per bush or up to 2 cups per square meter. It is better to do this on damp soil or on leaves in the morning – this way it is distributed more evenly and works more efficiently.
Small particles create unfavorable conditions for pests, and the alkaline environment further inhibits their activity. At the same time, the ash serves as a light supplement, supporting the growth and development of raspberries.
After rain, the treatment can be repeated. It is important not to exceed the dosage so as not to dry out the soil.
The method does not provide complete protection, but with regular use it helps to significantly reduce harm and preserve more future berries at no extra cost.
