Sanctions on Russia will stay longer. Donald Trump has made a decision

Decision extends the validity of sanctions imposed under presidential regulations in 2014, 2018 and 2022. In 2014, sanctions were announced in connection with the Russian annexation and occupation of Ukrainian Crimea and Russia's use of force on Ukrainian territory.
The scope of the restrictions was subsequently expanded. The retaliations announced in 2022 were related to Russia's recognition of the independence of Ukraine's regions, the so-called Donetsk People's Republic or Luhansk People's Republic. It was emphasized that this was contrary to Russia's obligations under the Minsk agreements and additionally threatened the peace, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The document on the extension of sanctions, dated February 18 this year, is scheduled to be officially published in the Federal Register on Friday. It was noted that Russian actions listed in earlier regulations continue to pose a threat to U.S. national security and foreign policy. Therefore, it was decided that they cannot expire on March 6, 2026 and will be extended for one year.
