As the ministry said, “Spiritual and moral culture of Russia” is aimed at developing a worldview in schoolchildren based on traditional values. Among them are patriotism, citizenship, service to the Fatherland, a strong family, the unity of the peoples of Russia, historical memory and creative work. Understanding these values should take place through acquaintance with the lives of outstanding compatriots. The program includes examples of government, military and cultural figures who left a significant mark on the history of the country: Emperor Peter the Great, poet Alexander Pushkin, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and many others.

“This subject will be taught by history teachers. Together with our Krasnoyarsk Regional Institute for Educational Development, we will prepare programs to improve the qualifications of teachers. The main goal of the new lesson is to lay the foundations for children’s cultural and value perception of the world, to introduce them to the spiritual and historical origins of the country. The knowledge gained should further help schoolchildren in literature and history lessons,” noted the region’s Minister of Education Tatyana Gridasova.

In addition, from September 1, 2026, fifth-graders in Russia will study a foreign language for two hours a week instead of three. And from September 1, 2027, the study of a foreign language in grades 6-7 will be reduced to two hours a week. “The changes are aimed at optimizing the workload and redistributing teaching time. At the same time, the study of foreign languages will remain a mandatory part of the program,” the ministry explained.
