Most of the athletes of the Georgian national team at the Olympics are directly or indirectly related to the Russian Federation – media


Journalists listed six skaters from the Georgian national team who are related to the aggressor country:

  • Anastasia Metelkina (born and trains in Russia, has been playing for the Georgian national team since 2020);
  • Luka Berulava, partner of Metelkina (born in Georgia, lives and trains in Moscow);
  • Anastasia Gubanova (born in the Russian Federation, played for her national team until 2021, lives and trains in Russia);
  • Nika Egadze (Georgian by origin, preparing for competitions in Moscow with Russian coaches);
  • Gleb Smolkin (born and raised in the Russian Federation, played for the Russian Federation, has been representing the Georgian national team since June 2023);
  • Diana Davis, Smolkin’s partner (born in the USA, grew up and became an athlete in Russia, has represented the Georgian national team since June 2023, trains in the Russian Federation).

The media reminds that Davis, who carried the Georgian flag at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in Milan and Cortina, is the daughter of a Putinist, Russian figure skating coach Eteri Tutberidze.

Context

The Olympic Games will last until February 22. 2,900 athletes from more than 90 countries will take part in the competition. There will be 116 sets of awards in 16 disciplines.

13 Russians competing in neutral status were allowed to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics .

Ukraine in Milan and Cortina will be represented by 46 athletes in 11 sports.
