The regional Office of Rospotrebnadzor explained to Krasnoyarsk residents how to harden themselves.

According to experts, hardening with cold water can be compared to training for the immune system and blood vessels: with a regular and competent approach, the body becomes more resilient and can more easily tolerate temperature changes, drafts and seasonal colds.

For procedures to be beneficial, it is important to follow the six P rule:

  • First – gradualism. The strength and duration of exposure to cold water should be increased gradually, without sudden changes;
  • Second – permanence. Hardening procedures should be regular – daily or every other day, without long breaks. One-time or irregular attempts will not give effect;
  • Third – parallelism. The combination of sun, air and water is more effective than each factor alone;
  • Fourth – positive emotional background. The procedures should take place without stress and internal tension;
  • Fifth – personal approach. Hardening must be carried out taking into account age, gender and health status;
  • Sixth – portability. The procedure should not cause pain or significant discomfort.

Rospotrebnadzor advises starting with water at the usual temperature, and then, when the body adapts to cool water, increase the exposure time and lower the temperature.

“Starting with two minutes of cold water at the end of the shower, you need to extend it to three, then to four minutes and so on. As the duration of the procedure increases, the temperature of the water should be gradually reduced from warm to cool, and then to cold,” the Department explained.

At the same time, experts warn: hardening has contraindications and limitations, so it is recommended to consult a doctor before starting the procedures.
