Specialists from the Krasnoyarsk Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention advised residents of the region how to breathe properly and preserve their lungs in cold conditions.
Siberian climate – a real test for the respiratory system. Frosty air, heating season and temperature changes require special care for the lungs.
During the heating season, humidity in apartments drops to 20%-30%, while 40%-60% is considered the norm. As a result, this dries out the mucous membranes, which become vulnerable to viruses. Therefore, in winter, use a humidifier in apartments and be sure to regularly ventilate the premises.
To strengthen the respiratory muscles and ventilation of the lungs while walking, try the technique of deep, slow inhalation through your nose and long exhalation through your mouth. And at home, 5-10 minutes a day, for example, inflate balloons.
By winter, experts advise getting a flu shot, which will protect against severe complications on the respiratory system. You can sign up for vaccination at the clinic at your place of attachment. In addition, do not neglect medical examination. Fluorography or spirometry, if indicated, helps identify problems with the respiratory system at an early stage, when they are easier to correct.
Smoking is a major factor in lung diseases, including cancer. Cold air already narrows the bronchi, and cigarette smoke aggravates their damage. Therefore, it is important not only to give up cigarettes, but also to avoid passive smoking.
It is also necessary to maintain immunity in winter. A balanced diet with vitamins (especially C and D), adequate sleep and moderate physical activity will help your body's resistance to disease.
