Siberian customs officers stopped more than 1.7 thousand offenses with the help of service dogs

In 2025, based on the results of the work of employees of the canine units of the Siberian customs, 65 criminal cases and more than 1.7 thousand cases of administrative offenses were initiated.

According to the department, over the past year, customs officers with service dogs took part in 7.5 thousand events: customs control, operational search activities and joint operations with law enforcement units of regional security forces.

More than 1.9 million pieces of cargo and luggage were inspected with the participation of sniffer dogs. The four-legged animals helped inspectors identify more than 1.46 tons of nasvay, 6.9 thousand blocks of illegal tobacco products, more than 32 kg of narcotic drugs and more than 596 kg of drugs and precursors containing potent substances, firearms and ammunition prohibited for movement across the customs border.

In addition, an important area of ​​work for canine units is the fight against the illegal export of cash from the country. In 2025, specially trained dogs helped customs officers detect 42.5 million rubles, more than 131.5 thousand US dollars, almost 17 thousand euros and more than 5.5 million of various foreign currencies in ruble equivalent.

“The performance indicators of the canine unit employees indicate the traditionally high efficiency of the use of service dogs. At the end of the year, especially noteworthy is the work of the canine handlers of the Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, and Irkutsk customs offices, who serve in conditions of intense international air traffic,” said Ekaterina Selyuk, head of the Service for Organization of Canine Activities of the Siberian Operational Customs.
