Several thousand people participated in the demonstration in the Serbian capital. The gathered celebrated 16 minutes of silence 16 victims of the collapse of the roof of the railway station in Nowy Sad at the beginning of November. The tragedy has led to a wave of mass protests on this day.
During the protest there was a dangerous incident – a passenger car entered the crowd of demonstrators – one person was injured. The perpetrator of the accident was detained by the participants of the demonstration. According to the media, the police have already initiated proceedings against him.
Protest before television. “Not to lie”
A parallel protest was organized in front of the headquarters of the RTS public broadcaster in response to false information about protesting students published in television news programs. The gathered chanted: “to lie not nicely” or “blockades are still ongoing”.
From December, the initiative in the organization of mass demonstrations was taken over by students, who also began the occupation of 60 faculties in all academic centers of the country.
Students demand the disclosure of contracts related to the renovation of the station in Nowy Sad, punish guilty robbery of demonstrators, dismisses the charges against protests participants and increased by 20 percent. budget expenditure on higher education.
In recent weeks, there has been an appeal to the postulates for a thorough examination of the incident, which led to the outbreak of panic during the protest in Belgrade in mid -March. Panic was caused by a loud bang, which – according to some media and protesters – was a sonic weapon used by the services. The sixth postulate concerns the protection of patients and is a response to regular visits of President Aleksandar Vucia in hospitals. “Health must be above politics,” the students pointed out.
In addition, students from the new court demanded that the government to establish an expert office, which would lead the country to new elections. This idea has been raised by the Serbian opposition for months and firmly rejected by the country's authorities.
