Knife attack at a high school in Kyiv. Ukrainian authorities evoke a possible connection with Russia
A 14-year-old teenager is accused of stabbing a student of the same age and a 39-year-old teacher in an educational institution in Kiev, an attack that could be linked to Russia, the police and the prosecutor's office announced on Monday, reports AFP.
The teenager “wore a mask and helmet prepared in advance in the school's toilets, then ran into a classroom and attacked a 39-year-old teacher and a 14-year-old classmate with a knife,” before injuring his hand and abdomen, Ukrainian police said in a statement.
The prosecutor's office in Kyiv has in turn evoked a possible connection with Russia, after a “correspondence” with “unknown individuals – probably representatives of the Russian special services” was discovered in the teenager's phone.
A photo published by Ukrainian media outlet RBC, which appears to be a screenshot from a Telegram conversation, shows a teenager wearing a helmet, masked face and a T-shirt with the message “Hitler kaput”.
In the photos released by the police, a teenager can be seen with the pixelated figure and an identical T-shirt.
According to the prosecutor's office, the two victims and the attacker were transported to the hospital. The stabbed teacher is in a 'serious condition'.
“Hitler kaput” is a formula used by the Soviet troops in front of the German soldiers in the Second World War.
Among the reasons cited by Russia for its invasion of Ukraine is that the Ukrainian authorities would tolerate groups spreading neo-Nazi ideology among its armed forces.
