Ukraine imported 90% of the required coke in 2025 from Poland

According to customs data, Ukraine imported 602.01 thousand tons of coke from Poland in 2025. In addition, during this period, Ukraine imported 27.67 thousand tons of coke from Indonesia and 13.06 thousand tons from the Czech Republic.

GMK Center noted that in 2013–2024, coking coal production in Ukraine decreased by 74%, and coke production by almost 85%. This happened because 64% of mines and coke-chemical enterprises are located in territories not controlled by Ukraine.

According to portal analysts, to support the current production level of 6.5 million tons of steel by converter and open-hearth methods and 1.3 million tons of commercial pig iron, Ukraine needs about 3.2 million tons of coke per year.
