Dănuț Coman (46 years old), the president of FC Argeș, spoke openly about the involvement of the mayor of Pitesti, Cristian Gentea, in the team. Coman answers all questions directly and states that all decisions within the club are made by him, not by the city mayor.

Even though they lost 1-2 in the last stage of 2025, FC Argeș finishes the year in 5th place, a position that leads the team from the city of the great Nicolae Dobrin to a historic play-off.

Dani Coman: “I consult with the mayor, but I have the last word”

How much does politics intervene in sports? What are the messages that the mayor sends? Does the city mayor have the last word on the team? These were questions to which Dani Coman, the president of FC Argeș, answered directly.

He suddenly began his dialogue by saying bluntly: “I have the last word in everything that happens at FC Argeș!”.

“It's perfectly true that I consult with the mayor because that's normal and I consult with everyone. From the coaches, to the doctor, to the sports directors, to the team manager, I consult with everyone. When a player leaves or when a player comes, because I don't know them all. I don't know them and everyone can come up with information,” says Coman.

The responsibility is entirely mine, because I brought the players, I brought the administrative staff, I brought the technical staff. All discussions must be with me, not the people I lead

“He never interfered in any decision”

He stated on the show “Friends of Ovidiu” that including “the extra-sports life of the players interests me”. “I wanted to create a group at Pitesti and at all the teams I went to. And I did it at Astra, and at Sibiu, and at Pitesti. I created a beautiful group, a united group,” he says.

Asked “What is the mayor's role in what happens at the club?”, Dani Coman gave a sharp answer. “It does not interfere in any way. He never interfered in any decision I made. Regardless of whether it was from a football point of view, bringing or leaving players, or from an administrative point of view. I have a free hand to do everything I think,” said the former goalkeeper.

“We don't have the financial possibilities to bring big players”

As the winter vacation has come, but the break is only for a few days, then the Super League teams start training, Coman spoke on the GSP show including about the targets in the mercato.

“I don't want big players because we don't have the financial possibilities to bring big players. But at the same time I want players who understand that football is a priority for them. To put it first and I tell them every time not to accept defeat”he explains.

“To fight until the last moment for every ball, for every point, because the most beautiful life is the life of a footballer. I played football, I'm a leader. Nothing else gives you the satisfaction of a game won as a player, a trophy won,” Coman said on Ioanițoaia's show.

Mr. Gentea is good at football and what do you think? And he plays football well too. Every Sunday he walks, plays football, rides 20 kilometers by bike. He keeps sending me pictures and saying, “When are you taking me as an attacker?”
