Canadian Prime Minister Marc Carney announced on Saturday, at the beginning of his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Halifax, that the authorities in Ottawa will provide Ukraine with an additional $2.5 billion in economic aid.

Welcoming the Ukrainian guest, Carney noted that the support provided will help Ukraine unlock financing from the International Monetary Fund.
The Canadian prime minister stressed that an agreement to end the war in Ukraine would require “Russia ready to cooperate.” Carney also condemned the “barbarity of the Russian attacks” that Russian troops carried out on Kiev on the night from Friday to Saturday.
The visit to Canada precedes Zelensky's meeting with US President Donald Trump in Florida scheduled for Sunday. Earlier, the Ukrainian president and the head of the Canadian government are to hold a joint telephone conversation with European politicians, who will also discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine on Saturday. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will participate in the meeting.
On Wednesday, the President of Ukraine presented a new, 20-point peace plan proposal developed by the US, which is the result of consultations with the parties to the conflict. It provides for, among others: reconfirmation of Ukraine's sovereign status, freezing the conflict on the current lines of contact, a solid development package for Ukraine, efforts to rebuild the country, accelerating the process of concluding a free trade agreement between Ukraine and the US, and elections in the country as soon as possible after the end of the war.
