Germany will send soldiers to Poland. Border strengthening needed

The German Ministry of Defense announced that A group of soldiers will come to Poland whose main task will be “engineering activities” related to the fortification of the eastern flank.
In practice, these will include construction of fortifications, digging ditches, laying barbed wire and erecting anti-tank barriers. The ministry's spokesman emphasized that support for German troops will be limited only to this type of activities.

Strengthening the border with Belarus
Poland announced the expansion of security on a long section of the border in May last year. This is a belt covering, among others, border with Belarus and an area adjacent to the Russian exclave, the Kaliningrad Oblast.
The decision is related to growing concerns about the threat from Russia.
Berlin did not provide the exact number of soldiersinforming only that it will be a “mid-double-digit” group. The participation of German personnel in the project is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026 and last until the end of 2027.
Germany also emphasizes that the consent of the Bundestag will not be needed in this case, because there is no direct threat to soldiers resulting from armed conflicts. As a rule, the German parliament must approve foreign use of the Bundeswehr, with exceptions.
The context of this decision is a bit broader. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Poland has consistently supported Kiev, and its territory has become an important transit route for Western military aid. At the same time, Warsaw is intensively modernizing its army and increasing defense spending. In turn, Germany remains one of the largest suppliers of military aid to Ukraine, second only to the United States. They transfer various types of equipment, from air defense systems to armored vehicles.
