Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia

“I had a very good conversation this morning with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet about the very unfortunate resurgence of their long-running war,” Donald Trump wrote on Friday on his Truth social media site.

The U.S. president said the leaders “agreed to stop firing as of this evening and to return to the original peace agreement they reached with me with the support of the great Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim.”

“The roadside bomb that first killed and injured many Thai soldiers was an accident, but Thailand still responded very strongly. Both countries are ready for peace and continued trade with the US. It is my honor to work with Anutin and Hun to resolve what could have turned into a major war between two otherwise beautiful and prosperous countries!” – added the US president.

The agreement concluded with Donald Trump has been broken

At the end of October, Thailand and Cambodia signed a ceasefire agreement, negotiated with the participation of Donald Trump. However, it was broken just a few weeks later.

The Thai army said in a statement that the Cambodian military carried out artillery fire on Wednesday evening, attacking its positions. In retaliation, Thai soldiers fired at the enemy, destroying, among others, trucks. According to the pro-government website Cambodia's Fresh News, the exchange of fire continued on Thursday.

The parties accused each other of provoking aggression. On Thursday, the AP news agency reported, citing the Thai military, that over 20 people, including three civilians, were killed in clashes near the border of both countries. Cambodian authorities reported that nine civilians, including an infant, were killed on its side, and 46 other people were injured.
