Cottage trick from the past: a forgotten way to preserve moisture and crop without large investments

Today they almost forgot about this method, but meanwhile it still works. This is a simple and effective mulching method. Many years ago, no one was surprised to see old newspapers under the bushes. This was the usual business in the dachas. Do not throw away the old press, but use it with benefit for your site.

What are newspapers for plants for

An ordinary black and white newspaper copes with the role of mulch. It does not allow weeds to break through, holds moisture and helps the roots not overheat in the heat. Over time, the paper reins and makes the earth loose and nutritious.

This technique is especially good for currants, raspberries, tomatoes, pepper. Under them, the soil does not dry out and it is necessary to weed much less often.

How to do everything right

We need simple newspapers without glossy inserts. Spread them in two or three layers directly under the bush or between the beds. In order not to be carried away by the wind, a little grass, earth or straw can be poured on top.

Under such a coating, the soil remains wet longer, plants are less sick, and water for watering is spent less.

Why did this method have forgotten

Now in fashion purchased mulch and beautiful materials for shelter. But if the site is small, but I don’t want to spend money, the newspaper will cope no worse. It is in every house, and there is more benefit from it in the beds than it seems.
