New “attractive” flights for Russians. An unusual connection is planned. From Moscow straight to Pyongyang
According to the newspaper, referring to the documents of Rosacja (Russian Federal Aviation Transport Agency), the carrier wants to organize two regular flights a week from Moscow to the capital of North Korea.
“North Korea is unlikely to become a mass direction for Russian tourists”
The Russians can now get to North Korea, special flight of North Korean airline Air Koryo (from Vladivostok) or by train as part of groups organized by the tour operator Pegas Touristik. To this end, it is necessary to obtain a visa via a travel agency accredited by the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Russia.
The negotiations of the Russian Ministry of Transport with representatives of North Korea's air authorities regarding the potential extension of air connections between countries began at the end of 2023. From February 2020 to August 2023, flights from Vladivostok to Pyongyang were not implemented due to the restrictions related to Covid-19 pandemic.
The Vice President of the Russian Tourism Association Dmitry Gorim believes that North Korea is unlikely to become a mass direction for Russian tourists in the event of opening a new air route. In his opinion, the demand for strictly organized trips to North Korea will come from people who are interested in the color and specificity of this closed country.
The interlocutor of “Kommersant” from the tourism industry noted that among the difficulties for travelers to North Korea we can mention: problems with internet access, high roaming costs, as well as completing documents and cash settlements (in the country you can pay only cash).
