Romania maintains, however, a warmer thermal regime than usual for this period.

“We remain on a sign of warmer-than-usual weather,” said the director of ANM, Elena Mateescu to Digi 24, stating that the week of December 15-22 is estimated to be the warmest of the entire period analyzed. Thermal deviations are between +2.5 and +4°C throughout the country.

For the end of this week and next week, the highs will vary slightly from day to day, being between 9 and 14-15°C, with the highest temperatures to be in the extra-Carpathian regions and the sub-Carpathian hills.

On Thursday, unusually high values for the month of December were already recorded: 17°C in Pâtârlagele and Pitesti and 12°C in the Capital.

Light rain, drizzle and snow at high altitudes

Meteorologists are predicting light precipitation over the next few days, mostly in the form of drizzle or light rain. At high altitudes in the Eastern Carpathians, mixed precipitation and light snow are possible, accompanied by wind intensifications that can reach 60–70 km/h. In low-lying areas, gusts will be between 40-50 km/h.

Negative lows across most of the country

Minimum temperatures will drop below zero degrees on Sunday morning, reaching -3°C, and in the depressions of eastern Transylvania up to -4°C. On the coast, the minimums will remain around 4–5°C.

In Bucharest, minimum values of -2°C are forecast for the weekend, and even -3°C on Monday morning, Mateescu said.

Cooldown towards the end of December

Estimates for the period 22–29 December indicate the maintenance of positive temperatures, 1–2°C above normal, but after 29 December the temperatures will drop towards the usual values of the end of December and the beginning of January.
