Donald Trump is “frustrated” by Vladimir Putin's “irrational” approach to peace talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, former Brexiteer Nigel Farage claims, according to Politico.

Farage says Trump is doing everything he can to get a fair deal for Ukraine.

“Putin proves every week that he's not rational, that he doesn't want a fair deal, and frankly, he's an incredibly dangerous man,” Farage said at a press conference on Friday, according to Politico.

He added that Ukraine had been offered a bad deal under which it would be forced to accept limits on the size of its military – limits that usually only apply to a country that has signed an “unconditional surrender”.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's position is uncertain amid a corruption scandal,” Farage added, referring to the corruption case involving President Volodymyr Zelensky's chief of staff Andriy Iermak. Iermak resigned from his position following the scandal.

However, Kiev cannot “give up territories for the defense of which tens of thousands of people have died,” he added. “So the deal, in its current form, doesn't work.”

Farage stressed that his remark was not a criticism of Trump's efforts to broker a truce, saying the US president is “a peacemaker” who is doing everything he can to get a fair deal. “I admire him enormously for that and I know how frustrated he is with Putin's lack of rationality,” the former Brexit supporter said.

Putin rejects Trump's proposals

On Tuesday, President Trump sent his son-in-law Jared Kushner and peace envoy Steve Witkoff for five hours of direct talks with Vladimir Putin.

The discussion ended with the Kremlin leader rejecting the US proposals. They were adjusted following talks with Ukraine and European allies.

Even before the meeting, Putin warned Europe that it would suffer a quick defeat if it went to war with Russia and rejected European counter-proposals for peace in Ukraine, considering them totally unacceptable to Russia.

Trump said this week that the path to peace in Ukraine remains unclear.
