A farmer from Moldova found a Russian drone. “I never would have believed it”

“A peasant from a village in the Republic of Moldova goes to the field. What does he see? A Russian drone. Instead of picking up the phone and calling 112, what does our man do? He puts the drone in the tiller trailer and… takes it home,” wrote Moldovan journalist Vitalie Cojocari from Euronews TV on Facebook.

Where exactly did the farmer find the drone?

What did the farmer do after finding the drone?

What confirmation did the services give regarding the drone?

Was the drone a threat to public safety?

A Russian Gerbera-type drone was found late last week in the village of Pepeni, approximately 100 km north of the capital, Chisinau. As the village mayor, Oleg Cernei, informed the journalist, after transporting the machine to his yard, the farmer decided to remove the engine. On Wednesday, he loaded the rest of the drone onto the trailer and took it to the mayor's house. “If I hadn't personally talked to the mayor of this village, I would never, absolutely never believe that this story could be true,” Cojocari comments on the situation.

The services confirmed that the drone was Gerbera. It did not contain explosives

Mayor Pepeni immediately called the appropriate services. The drone was taken care of by military experts who secured the device and transported it to an appropriate facility for technical tests. They also collected the removed parts from the finder. “They do not contain explosives, and the object itself did not pose a threat to public safety,” says the Moldovan police in a message on Facebook. The officers also confirmed that the unmanned aircraft is a Gerber-type drone.

Last week, Moldova's airspace was violated several times by drones during Russian attacks on Ukraine. One of them fell on the roof of a house in the village of Nizhni Kugureshti in the Floresti district. Fortunately, no one was injured.

In connection with these incidents, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
