At the request of the prosecutor's office, the administration of Norilsk was entrusted with the responsibility to demolish the unsafe apartment building.
In January 2021, apartment building No. 75 on Laureatov Street was declared unsafe and subject to demolition due to the threat of collapse. In December 2023, it was resettled and disconnected from communications, but the city administration never made a decision on demolition. An inspection by the prosecutor's office showed improper restriction of access to the residential premises – windows, entrances and technical underground remained open.
In this regard, the prosecutor's office made a presentation to the deputy head of the city for urban affairs. In response, the administration referred to the lack of funding for demolition, and also pointed to the vandalism of citizens destroying the conservation of the building.
“Then the prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit to impose an obligation on the administration to demolish the dilapidated building within 6 months after the decision came into force and ensure proper restriction of access to the building. The court upheld the prosecutor’s claim, rejecting the administration’s arguments about lack of funds and vandalism,” the press service of the supervisory agency reported.
The execution of the court decision is constantly monitored by the prosecutor's office to ensure the safety of residents and compliance with the law.
