Krasnoyarsk residents were told about new schemes of deception on the Internet

March 10 9:57

Residents of Krasnoyarsk and the region were told about new schemes of Internet scammers. Now they ask their victims to name the last four digits of the incoming call, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.

The scheme may look like this: scammers post advertisements for some service, for example, massage, on social networks or instant messengers. When a person tries to book a session, he is warned that a call is about to come in; to confirm the appointment, he will need to say the last four digits of the incoming call.

But in fact, at that moment, criminals are hacking his email. The call does not come from the massage parlor at all, but to confirm the login to the person’s account.

“In this way, scammers can hack anything – social networks, personal accounts in online stores and ad sites, or accounts in online games. And then they send spam on behalf of the victim, place orders on her behalf, write off all bonuses, or simply demand a ransom in order to return access to the profile,” says information on the Financial Culture portal of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

Scammers are constantly coming up with new deception schemes. To avoid financial losses when meeting with scammers, follow the basic rules of financial security:

• under no circumstances disclose your full bank card details to anyone;

• do not follow dubious links from messages and do not transfer money to strangers;

• do not store a lot of money on the card you use to pay on the Internet;

• if you receive a sudden call from any financial institution with an urgent question or proposal, hang up and call them yourself, finding the number on its official website;

• do not publish your personal data in the public domain;

• establish a self-ban on loans.
