A new insurer, supervised from Greece, started selling RCA exclusively online in Romania: “We will invest 50 million euros in the next 10 years”

Interamerican, a Greek insurer part of the Dutch group Achmea (formerly Eureko), started selling exclusively online, for several weeks, in a pilot stage, the first RCA insurances under the Anytime brand, the target being “a few hundred policies by the end of this year”, Antonis Tsaknakis, the general director of Anytime Romania, said on Tuesday. “We don't want to be the cheapest, but to have the best value for money in the market,” he said.

The sale of RCA car insurance exclusively online will be done on the basis of the European passport, according to the right of establishment (FOE – freedom of establishment). This means that the firm is authorized and prudentially supervised by the authorities in Greece, but is obliged to open a branch in Romania.

It is the same model already used on the local market by Axeria Iard (France) and Hellas Direct – HD (Cyprus).

“A few weeks ago, we launched the first RCA policies on the insurances.ro platform and we want to be on eMag by the end of this year. We aimed to sell several hundred RCA policies by the end of this year. The commercial launch will take place at the beginning of next year and we plan to gradually gain market share”, said the general director of Anytime Romania on Tuesday, in a discussion with Romanian journalists.

Launched in 2007 as the first digital-only insurer in Greece, Anytime now has over 500,000 active customers in both Greece and Cyprus. The company says it will start selling its RCA policies on the anytime.ro platform only at the beginning of next year.

“At the beginning of next year we will also launch CASCO and explore other lines of insurance, such as home insurance, travel insurance and other products. Generally any product that can be sold exclusively online as we do in Greece and Cyprus,” said Antonis Tsaknakis.

“We will invest 50 million euros in the next 10 years”

Present at the event, Panos Kouvalis, the operations director of the Interamerican group, gave details about the investments that will be made on the Romanian market so that

“We want to reach an RCA market share of at least 10% in the next 7-8 years. We are here to stay, it will take us time to understand the needs of consumers in Romania and we will take steps gradually. We have planned investments in people, in partners and technology. In the next 10 years we will invest 50 million euros”, said the director of operations of the Interamerican group.

For claims assessment, Interamerican has partnered with Recrex, an international company that provides claims management services to insurance companies in Europe.

The 11th RCA player from Romania. How much have the prices gone up?

At this moment, Interamerican became the 11th RCA insurer in Romania, with the mention that the activity of the Bulgarians at DallBogg, which had among the lowest prices, was suspended from July 1 this year due to problems with the payment of claims and non-compliance with obligations towards the insured.

On June 30, 2025, seven RCA insurers were authorized and supervised by the ASF, respectively: Allianz-Țiriac, Asirom, Easy Asigurări, Generali, Grawe, Groupama and Omniasig.

On the RCA market in Romania, two branches operate under the right of establishment: Axeria IARD and Hellas Direct. In the first six months of this year, Axeria Iard reported revenues of 425 million lei from the sale of RCA, which means 8.2% of the total revenue from the RCA market in Romania, according to ASF data.

In the same period, Hellas Direct (HD Insurance) reported revenues of around 337 million lei (6.5% of the RCA market in Romania).

As for DallBogg, the Bulgarian insurer managed to sell RCA premiums worth 291 million lei, accumulating a market share of 5.6%, until June 30, 2025, before its activity was suspended.

We remind you that until July 1, 2025, RCA pricing was capped for 2 years and 3 months after the bankruptcy of the Bulgarian insurer Euroins, which led to an increase in RCA prices for millions of drivers.

In the first six months of this year, Romanians who took out RCA policies for a duration of 12 months paid an average of 1028 lei, 3.9% more compared to the same period last year, according to ASF data. In the case of RCA policies concluded by companies, the first average was 2,098 lei, 4.4% higher compared to the one related to the same semester of the previous year.
