The Minister of the Economy, Irineu Darău, said on Friday evening, on Digi24, that the year 2026 will remain a difficult one, but it could become “a year of calibration”, intended to prepare the basis for economic development in 2027. The new Minister of the Economy said that the mission of the current Government is to end the difficult period the economy is going through at the end of 2026 at the latest.

“I think we've met in the studios before and you've seen that I'm never a populist. If I said that next year will be a very easy one, I'd be lying. The following year will still be difficult,” said the Minister of Economy, when asked what Romanians should expect in 2026.

“A clean white sheet for 2027 and development”

“However, I think that somewhere during the year, resources will be found to improve individually at least a little bit. And I, personally, want to maybe with some small measures to find solutions, maybe that do not cost, to improve the life of entrepreneurs a little bit. But I think that next year is the year of calibration to lay down, if you like, a clean white sheet for 2027 and development. I think, as it has been said since the installation of the government, that this is the mission of the government: maximum at the end of 2026 to end the difficult period and lay the bricks for future development”, said the responsible minister.

According to him, the biggest problem is “trust”: “It's not easy. I think the biggest problem we have – not today, yesterday and in austerity, it always gets bigger – is trust.”

“It's hard for people, in difficult situations, with high taxes, to trust the state. I would ask them to trust this government, because always populism is worse than realism. Realism sometimes hurts, sometimes we have to take some steps back from what was given in the past for campaigns and so on, what others gave, but I think that's how a situation recovers in the end, just like we do in the family: if we have another child or our expenses increase, we take some decisions so that next year we can recover. I think this is what next year is about, and I will be a voice in this sense”, continued the new Minister of Economy.

“We must also show solidarity in the central administration and in the local administration, because the weight cannot be carried only by the citizens”, said the Minister of Economy, Irineu Darău.
