The unemployment rate jumped by 6% in Olt. The unemployed from the village represent over 82% of the total

Olt County is in the top 10 counties with the highest unemployment rate recorded at the end of September 2025, exceeding 6%.

The unemployment rate recorded at the end of September in Olt county exceeded 6% (6.03% in September, compared to 5.91% in August), a figure that places Olt in the top 10 counties with the highest rates, with Vaslui in first place, with 8.81%. In the southwest region, the counties of Mehedinți – 8.77% and Dolj – 8.40% have higher rates than Olt, while the national unemployment rate is 3.15%.
The total number of unemployed reached 7,854 in Olt, almost 300 more than in the same period last year. Men are more affected by unemployment, out of a total of 7,854 unemployed, 3,528 are women and over 4,300 are men.
Out of the total number of unemployed people in Olten, only 13.3% receive benefits. Another worrying figure is that regarding the residential environment. 6,486 unemployed are from rural areas, which represents 82.6% of the total.
People with secondary school education have the largest share in the total number of unemployed – 42.73%, followed by those with four grades and those without school (19.63%). The fewest are the unemployed who graduated from a post-secondary school – 1.03%, followed by college graduates – 1.92%, according to the data communicated by the Olt County Employment and Training Agency.
Almost 3,000 unemployed people will most likely not find work soon, being part of the category of very hard-to-employ people. To them are added another 3,256 unemployed people from the category of hard-to-employ people. There are only 366 unemployed people who, according to the occupational profile established by the public employment service advisors, will have no problems finding a job (easily employable people).
At the national level, the unemployment rate shows a downward trend, being 0.02 percentage points lower than that of the previous month. For the month of September 2025, the unemployment rate was calculated using the civilian active population on 01.01.2025, an indicator that is communicated by the National Institute of Statistics, every year, usually after September, according to ANOFM specifications. The active civilian population, at the national level, increased on January 1, 2025, compared to January 1, 2024, by 30.8 thousand people (from 7,973,2 thousand people on January 1, 2024, to 8,004,0 thousand people on January 1, 2025).
