Raad Saad, a top Hamas commander, was killed in the Gaza Strip

In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said that the attack on Saad was a response to the attack on two Israeli soldiers who were slightly injured in an explosion that occurred a few hours earlier in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
According to politicians, the Hamas commander was to be “one of the architects” of the attack on October 7, 2023, which initiated the Palestinian organization's war with Israel. Netanyahu and Katz said Saad “was also involved in rebuilding the terrorist organization,” thus violating the US ceasefire agreements. The Hamas commander was also responsible for weapons production in the Gaza Strip.

A military source cited by the Times of Israel said that “Saad has long been a target” of Israeli forces.
According to Axios, Israel did not notify the US about the planned air attack on the Gaza Strip.
A truce negotiated with the United States and Arab countries has been in force in the Gaza Strip since October 10. Both Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating it.
