Four possible Russian agents were detained in Latvia. They are suspected of preparing sabotage


According to the investigation, this group carried out actions directed against the security of Latvia, on behalf of the intelligence services of the aggressor country, Russia.

The investigation began back in June 2024. The investigation established that the suspects participated in the planning and implementation of sabotage and arson. Three suspects were detained in the spring of 2025, the fourth at that time was already in prison for another crime.

According to investigators, in the fall of 2023, the group set fire to the facility of a private company involved in defense projects. Another arson was planned at the beginning of 2024 on the territory of a critical infrastructure facility; its target was a truck with Ukrainian license plates.

Investigators also established that the group members conducted reconnaissance of other potential targets for sabotage, filmed these objects and their surroundings, and sent photo and video materials to curators in Russia.

Currently, three suspects are in custody, and one of the suspects is already serving a sentence for another crime.

Context

On September 17, the Prosecutor General's Office and the Criminal Bureau of the Lithuanian Police exposed a group of people who organized and planned to carry out four terrorist attacks in different European countries, wrote LRT.

On September 22, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated that Russian provocations would “destabilize Europe,” reported The Guardian.

October 2 Gazeta Wyborcza reported that the Russian special services were preparing sabotage with drones and explosives in Poland, Lithuania and Germany
