Red caviar is already a thing of the past: a very tasty spread for sandwiches for the New Year 2026

With the New Year holidays approaching, housewives are thinking: what to put on the table so that it is both tasty and beautiful, but at the same time without unnecessary expenses? After all, classic red caviar, although it looks solemn, hits the wallet. Good news: there is a worthy alternative that will cost several times less, but will not be inferior in sophistication – even vice versa!

Introducing a quick, gentle and very aromatic spread that can be prepared in 15 minutes from the simplest ingredients. Feel free to serve it for a festive feast or for morning tea – guests will definitely ask for more.

Ingredients (for 6–8 sandwiches):

  • Processed cheese – 1 pc. (~90 g)
  • Eggs – 3 pcs.
  • Capelin caviar (ready, from a jar) – 100 g
  • Fresh dill – ½ bunch
  • Green onions – 3-4 feathers
  • Freshly ground black pepper – to taste
  • Salt – optional (usually not required)

How to cook:

  1. Hard boil the eggs, cool and peel.
  2. Grate the eggs and processed cheese on a fine grater – this will make the mixture especially tender.
  3. Finely chop the dill and green onions – they will add freshness and brightness.
  4. Combine all ingredients in a bowl: eggs, cheese, caviar, herbs. Mix well until smooth.
  5. Season with a pinch of black pepper. As a rule, there is no need to add salt – caviar already contains enough salt.
  6. Place in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes – during this time the mass will set slightly and become ideal for spreading.

Presentation: simple and effective

Spread the prepared mixture onto:

  • toasted baguette,
  • crispy toasts,
  • slices of black bread or loaf.

For decoration, add a sprig of dill, a slice of fresh cucumber or an olive. These sandwiches look festive, are easy to prepare, and don't require any last minute—they can be made the day before.
