He explained that as soon as the first shoots begin to appear on the site, she prepares a special mixture for scaring pests.
“In addition to protection against pests, this method still helps to fight weeds and protects plantings from drying out the soil. It needs to be used in a timely manner – namely, when the lilac begins to bloom. It is during flowering of lilacs that the onion flush begins to fly,” the gardener said.
She recommended to use birch tar, which is sold in pharmacies to protect seedlings. According to the gardener, now it costs about 40 UAH.
Preparation of the solution
- 1 bucket of birch sawdust soak for a day in ordinary water.
- After 24 hours, add 50 ml of birch tar to the water.
- Mix. Dego should evenly distribute on sawdust.
- Distribute the resulting mass with a thin layer on the area with onions.
The author of the blog explained that thanks to the specific smell of a birch tar, the onion fly will ignore the site and will not be able to lay his eggs there.
“This method is tested by time and very effective, so I boldly advise you,” the gardener emphasized.
She noted that in addition to this method, it is important not to plant onions on the same plantation as the previous time, since the soil can already be infected with the larvae of the pest.
“It is advisable to place a bed with carrots or tomatoes nearby. Plant velvets next to such areas. They will effectively scare away onion fly,” the author of the video advised.
