Purple bags are intended to solve the problem of textile waste

The new system aims to organize textile waste management in Gliwice. Existing solutions, such as clothing containers, often led to the creation of illegal landfills.

The city authorities decided to introduce purple bags and containers, which will be collected directly from properties to prevent illegal landfills and overflowing containers.
It is also a step towards a more ecological and convenient waste segregation system. The city authorities hope that the changes will contribute to more conscious management of textile waste.
As we read on the Gliwice website, residents of single-family homes will receive purple bags, which will be collected once a month in the “bag for bag” system. There will be purple containers in multi-family buildings, emptied every two weeks. Additionally, textile waste can still be disposed of at the PSZOK point.

“We want the changes we are introducing to be not only in line with the regulations, but above all sensible and convenient for residents. Hence, we have expanded the range of waste collected in the city to include clothing no longer suitable for use and textile waste. We have decided on a solution that works close to people, is not complicated and – I am convinced – will be perceived as a great convenience,” explained Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka, the mayor of Gliwice.

The city authorities remind that clothes in good condition should go to charity or to local collection points, such as “Second Life of Things”. Until the end of 2025, residents can also use mobile collections of textile waste in districts, according to the schedule available at segreguj.gliwice.eu.
In addition, the city reminded that brown BIO bags will only be collected until the end of December. From the new year, residents will have to purchase BIO containers with a capacity of 120 liters or 240 liters.
