Viktor Orban talks about “Brussels' war plans”. “We will not die for Ukraine”


“The day of the Budapest Peace March has come. Today we send a message to the whole world: Hungary says NO to war! We will not die for Ukraine. We will not send our children to slaughter on Brussels' orders,” Orban wrote on Facebook.

On Thursday, Hungary celebrates the 1956 uprising against the communist regime and dependence on the Soviet Union. The uprising was bloodily suppressed after a few weeks by the Red Army.

Demonstrations will go through Budapest

Two separate demonstrations were planned in Budapest for that day: the government's Peace March and the National March organized by the leader of the Hungarian opposition, Peter Magyar. Prime Minister Orban repeatedly said before the anniversary that it would happen an opportunity to reject “Brussels' war plans”, how it describes the assistance provided by the EU to Kiev in the fight against Russian aggression.

The celebrations organized by the ruling camp began in the center of the capital in the morning. Crowds of government supporters arrived at the meeting place. A stage and a large screen have been erected in front of the Hungarian Parliament, displaying historians' statements and reenactments of the events of 1956.
