China “becomes very hostile,” US President Donald Trump said on Friday, threatening Beijing with a “massive” increase in customs duties, after the Asian country decided to establish an even greater control over the exports of rare minerals, reports France Presse, taken over by Agerpres.
“This was a real surprise,” the US president reacted on his Social Truth network. “I had to meet with (Chinese President XI Jinping) in two weeks at the APEC summit in South Korea, but there seems to be no reason,” he says in the same post.
The New York Stock Exchange has closed red in the face of this sudden increase in tensions between the two world -firms, which have hired a difficult commercial dialogue.
China tightens the screw on the exports of rare, vital for the world industry
Donald Trump appreciated that “he will be forced to counteract financially.” Rare minerals were already a major friction in Sino-American commercial negotiations, Washington accusing Beijing of deliberately delaying the export authorizations.
The Asian giant is the first world producer of these essential materials for digital, car, energy and even weapons.
The new checks announced by Beijing on Thursday aim at the export of technologies related to the extraction and production of these materials, the Ministry of Trade said in a statement.
One of the options that Donald Trump considers to answer is a “massive” growth of rates on Chinese goods entering the United States, he added on Social Truth.
“Many other countermeasures are seriously analyzed,” Trump added. “It is not possible for China to be authorized to keep the world 'prisoner', but it seems to be their plan for some time,” Donald Trump said.
