National Assessment 2026 simulation: how many schools are affected by the teachers' strike

The 2026 National Assessment mock begins on March 16, and the 2026 Baccalaureate mock is scheduled a week later, but the teachers' protest is affecting the organization of testing in some schools. According to the data of the Ministry of Education, the simulations will take place in 4,527 educational units in the country, i.e. 97.27% of the schools.

According to the centralized data from the county school inspectorates and transmitted on Friday, March 13, by the Ministry of Education, the simulations for the 2026 National Assessment are organized in 4,527 educational units in the country, which represents 97.27% of the schools.

In 127 educational units (2.73%), simulations are not organized, according to the information sent to the ministry.

The Ministry also reports that approximately 5,000 teacher evaluators are registered on the platform for correcting papers in Romanian, approximately 4,500 in mathematics and approximately 300 in the mother tongue.

Also, approximately 77,000 students have already participated in simulations organized at the level of some counties, before the national simulation of the National Assessment 2026. These are tests organized by some school inspectorates at the local level, before the national simulation, which starts on March 16.

The situation in Bucharest

In Bucharest, however, the situation is different in some schools. In 40 educational units, more than 3,000 students will not take the simulation of the National Assessment, according to a response from the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest sent at the request of Edupedu.ro.

“At this moment, according to data centralized at the level of the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest, the situation indicates 40 educational units in which the simulation is affected by the protest actions, with 3,276 students affected by the boycott”, the inspectorate stated.

Nationally, education unions reported this week that more than 50% of unionized teachers have decided not to take part in the 2026 mock national exams.

The Minister of Education, Mihai Dimian, said in a post on Facebook that he respects the right of teachers to express their grievances, but that simulations can be organized with teachers who do not participate in the protest. According to him, more than 8,000 teachers have registered for the evaluation of the works.

Unions accuse teachers of pressure

Education unions claim that in some schools there has been pressure on teachers to participate in the simulations.

“Unprecedented pressures and intimidation from the management of educational units and school inspectorates have been reached, greater than during the 2023 strike,” the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education (FSLI) and the Federation of Trade Unions in Education “Spiru Haret” conveyed in a joint statement published on March 9.

According to the unions, more and more teachers would be forced to sign up to participate in the organization of the simulations, although the internal referendum organized by the federations indicated a majority support for the boycott of the tests. Union leaders say boycotting the simulations is “a minimal act of dignity” and a form of protest against education policies.
